WHY DOES THE CATHOLIC CHURCH CONDEMN ASTROLOGY
ASTROLOGY speaks of the influence starts have on human beings and human affairs, and foretells events by the position of the starts. Astrology is superstitious practice.
Superstition is the attempt to obtain from a creature, starts,dreams e.t.c information or benefits which can be obtained from God alone. Astrology encourages the teaching that all things are subject to fate. It teaches that the occurrence of events is fixed in advance for all times in such a manner that human beings are powerless to change them. Events are inevitable, cannot be avoided,and are certain to happen. This teaching leads to the denial of divine Providence.
Human life is thus regulated by the course of the starts and planets,irrespective of the man's free will and God's grace.
The stars exercise absolute no determining influence on human lives or human affairs. To place any belief in a horoscope in order to foretell one's future is absolutely nonsense.
St Augustine attacked this teaching this teaching strongly in his book, ''the city of God (book 8 ch.19)
St Thomas Aquinas, the great Dominican Theologian, writes:
"" If anyone applies the observation of stars in order to know with certitude future human actions,his conduct is based on a false and vain opinion- _summa theologea_II-II,q. 45,a.5
